Josh Brown – Community Liaison coordinator, Victoria BID, says:

“As the Community Liaison Coordinator for the Victoria Business Improvement District and The Passage Resource Centre, working to support homeless people off the streets of Westminster, I would like to thank you for all your enquiries about those who are bedding down on the streets, in and around Victoria.

Outreach teams based in Westminster work tirelessly to offer accommodation and additional support to homeless individuals and when the weather gets severe, SWEP (Severe Weather Emergency Protocol) is activated. We are currently in a period of exceptional SWEP as severe temperature and weather conditions are predicted and there is a heightened risk to life. All services in Westminster including the police are mobilised to intervene and assist anyone found rough sleeping off the street into any available emergency spaces.

If you see someone and have concerns about their well-being, suspect that they are unwell or potentially hypothermic please do not hesitate to call emergency services immediately. You can report someone who is bedding down in the cold by going to Street Link or calling 0300 5000914.

Please give a good description of what the person looks like and include details such as bedding and the nearest address so outreach teams are able to locate and assist them.”
