Victoria set to shine brighter than ever as Lumiere London begins tonight

From today more than 50 artworks by UK and international artists are set to transform the capital’s streets, buildings and public spaces into an extraordinary and immersive nocturnal art exhibition of light and sound.

London Lumiere festival  is running over four evenings, from Thursday 18 January until Sunday 21 January, with each installation being illuminated between 5.30pm and 10.30pm

This year’s programme in Victoria is supported by the Victoria Business Improvement District and we are extremely excited to be bringing three key installations to the area. Take a look below at what is not to be missed..

The Rose by Mick Stephenson brings a rose window with a difference to the Westminster Cathedral Piazza. This work is made from thousands of recycled plastic bottles transformed into beautiful illuminated art, lit by the power produced by members of the public pedalling on stationary bicycles. Let’s get pedalling!

Spanish Artist Daniel Canogar brings his work to Victoria Street with Asalto London: a part-public intervention and part-video installation. The old Westminster City Hall will be “invaded” by Westminster residents and workers as they appear to slowly ‘climb’ up the building one after the other and eventually reach the top.  Come along to see if you can spot some familiar faces.

French digital artist Patrice Warrener returns to present The Light of the Spirit Chapter 2 for Westminster Abbey, one of the most popular installations at Lumiere London in 2016. Building upon this 2016 commission to articulate elements on the West Front, which gave the impression of a painted facade, this year Warrener will incorporate more of this landmark building, illuminating the sculptural details in his distinctive polychromatic style.
