London Design Festival – A roundup

With a theme of ‘Connections: people and places,’ our Design District highlighted the beauty of the diversity we have in the area through events and activities.

There was plenty to see and do in the Victoria Connections design district over the week, including an insightful lecture at Wellington Barracks on Why Everyone Wants to Wear Military Uniforms, an evening masterclass at M Restaurants with a look at their secret room and  wine tasting and a Floral Art Cube by Zita Elze in Westminster Cathedral Piazza, complete with mirrored panels.

In addition to some of the more creative events going on, there were exhibitions on the future of Victoria with proposals for Christchurch Gardens being showcased, a Then and Now Tour of Victoria with local developers, LandSec, and a glimpse into the History and Design of the iconic Apollo Victoria Theatre.

For those who were looking for a little more fun, culture, and broadening their skills, Shepherd London held a one-day workshop on the principles of bookbinding, the Rubens at the Palace hotel hosted a tour of their premises with a look at the stunning and thought provoking art on the walls of one of their exquisite bedrooms with an original Matisse and Murano glass chandelier.

Elsewhere in Victoria, The Telegraph’s BOB brought us a fantastic exhibition of his original and hilarious cartoons, Somo invited us into their VR world to explore the implications of design when creating VR experiences, and Westminster Cathedral took us on a Marble and Mosaic Design Tour in their striking premises.

Not only was there all of this to enjoy, but there were plenty of offers and other businesses getting in on the action with events and workshops. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the creativity, diversity and beauty of Victoria, whilst demonstrating its incredible history, talent and culture.
