Sadly it was announced last week that local hotelier George Goring had passed away. He was the third generation of his family to run the five-star Goring Hotel.
The iconic hotel was founded in 1910 by George’s grandfather Otto Richard Goring who saw potential in a plot of land near Buckingham Palace. After removing a public house and several cottages, the hotel was born and it officially opened on the 2nd March 1910. The hotel was equipped with en suite facilities and central heating in each bedroom, which is widely considered as the world’s first.
George joined the family business in 1961, when his father Otto Gustave Goring was in charge and worked there until his retirement in 2005, when he handed the business over to his son Jeremy who has run The Goring since.
The Goring has played host to a large number of historic events over the years and every reigning Monarch and serving Prime Minister has visited the hotel since 1910.
The Goring was awarded a Royal Warrant for hospitality services in 2013, which it retains to this day, and prides its success on service. Something we’re sure will continue to be world class for generations to come.
